Here are some of the most commonly asked questions ...
You don’t even need to unlock your phone to activate a Red Alert. Just tap “Red Alert” in the notifications screen. An aggressor may just think you’re switching off your music, for example.
When connected to an operator in our Monitoring Centre, your phone will vibrate intermittently to give you the reassurance you need, without needing to look at the phone screen.
There’s no need to hold the phone to your ear. You can leave it in your hand or armband. If necessary, you could also put it in your pocket if you’re wearing thin clothing. But a thick winter jacket, for example. Would muffle the sound.
Our operators are specially trained to listen for audio indicators to establish the severity of the situation. You can help them by subtly vocalising what’s going on i.e. “Don’t come any closer”, “Put the knife down”, “Get your hands off me”, “Don’t hit me again”, “I’ve broken my leg” etc.
The app relies on phone signal to make Red Alert calls to our Monitoring Centre. Therefore, please be aware of this if you’re running in an area that you know has no signal.
Yes, activating a Red Alert will use your phone minutes while you’re connected to our Monitoring Centre.
You can end a Red Alert call by telling the operator that you’re safe and you will be ending the call. Then hang up as you would a normal phone call.
You should leave a Check-In message before you set off for your run explaining your current location (including postcode), where you’re planning to run, whether you’re going alone or with others, how long you expect to be, whether you foresee any risks on route etc. Operators in our Monitoring Centre will only listen to these messages if a Red Alert is raised. The information provided helps us to verify the incident and is extremely valuable for the emergency services.
No, Red Alert calls are intentionally one-way to ensure complete discretion.
SoloProtect technology has been protecting lone workers for over 20 years. Therefore, our app was initially developed as a "lone worker safety" app. But given it has been tried and tested by thousands of of users across the world, we wanted people like you to have the same level of 24/7 protection every day.
The SoloProtect Mobile app can be used abroad. However, there are a few things to consider:
We cannot contact emergency services in non-UK countries. In a Red Alert situation, we will call your emergency contacts to let them know you require assistance.
It's extremely helpful to leave regular Check-In messages when you're travelling to confirm where you are, who you're with and your activities.
Calls activated via the app while abroad may be subject to international charges. Please consult your network provider to ensure you understand what to expect.
Our Ready2Talk, Incapacitation Alert, Working Status and Risk Messaging features are for our business customers only. If you have any questions about these, please contact us at support@soloprotect.com
